The Fight to save our Field goes on!
Dog Protest outside the Guildhall
The Executive of Canterbury City Council voted last night to build on the last public green open space in Kingsmead. It was a sad night for Kingsmead, a sad night for open space, and a sad night for local democracy in Canterbury.
In spite of huge public support and 15 powerful presentations in favour protecting the field, the Executive members (all from the same political party, with no Canterbury representative) voted unanimously to sell the field for residential development. It was clear that the vote was a foregone conclusion before the meeting had even begun.
The Village Green application is still pending and no building can take place on the field until this has been heard. This is not expected to take place until the middle of next year. No developer in their right mind will want to purchase the field until this has been done.
All is not lost, and the campaign continues!
