History was made tonight, when Canterbury City Councillors were forced to discuss the future of the Kingsmead Field in a debate triggered by people power. For the first time, a local E-Petition attained the 1500 E-signatures necessary to trigger a review by the Overview Committee. Eight members of the public spoke against the planned sale of the field, and the local councillor for Northgate, Alan Baldock, made an impassioned plea for the field to be saved. Although the Committee has no decision-making powers, it adopted two recommendations which will now be forwarded to the Executive:
1. To save Kingsmead Field as public open space
2. To conduct a new consultation on Kingsmead.
